The area known as Otter Rock was already a prime tourist Oregon Coast destination by the early 1900s. Fishing, swimming, agate and shell hunting, and even surfing were popular pastimes. Vacation cottages sprung up and sometime after 1950 the first resort appeared on the site between Cape Foulweather and Otter Rock.
