Come Prepared for Adventure

Tide pools can be extremely slippery due to the algae and seaweed, so make sure your whole family is wearing the correct footwear. Water shoes and sandals with grips are a great choice. Please ensure you watch where you walk, so you don’t step on any animals or get cut on hard barnacles. Keep a first aid kit handy! Bring these items with you, too:

  • Clothes you are comfortable getting wet
  • Reef-friendly waterproof sunscreen, reapplying at least every 30 minutes.
  • Towels
  • Enough water and snacks for a small army
  • Camera
  • Field guide

It’s important that you do not remove any creature from its natural habitat. Picking up animals will cause them distress, and we want to preserve our ocean friends! Watch out for any pesky crabs or jellyfish—touching them puts you at risk of getting pinched or stung. Look, but don’t disturb or touch the animals!
